Queenstown lies on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and is surrounded by magnificent snow capped mountain ranges. The setting is one of the most picturesque in the world and much of the accommodation is close to the lake and takes advantage of the sensational views and panoramas that surround the town. The accommodation is spread out into four main areas. The town centre is the hub and there is lots to choose from within easy walking distance of the city centre and all the shops, boutique, restaurants and cafes. The steamer wharf is right in the middle of town and the departure point for the beautiful steamer "Earnslaw" which plies the magnificent reaches of the lake. There are many hotels, resorts and hostels right in the middle of town and on the esplanade overlooking the lake and wharf area.. Westwards along the lake are the two suburbs of Sunshine Bay and Fernhill. Both have lots of great accommodation and most of it is built to take advantage of the sensational views.
